Hair loss affects both men and women alike and can have a significant impact on self-confidence when hair thinning or bald patches appear. One possible solution is a hair transplant, in which healthy hair is redistributed to achieve a full head of hair and even hair growth without having to put up with visible scars.
What is a hair transplant?
A hair transplant is a surgical procedure in which the hair is redistributed. Healthy hair roots are removed from the unaffected areas, for example at the crown or back of the head. These are then implanted into the areas affected by hair loss.
What are grafts?
Grafts are small clumps of hair that are transplanted individually during a hair transplant. Depending on the method used, the grafts are harvested individually (FUE method) or from a strip of skin (FUT method).
When is a hair transplant useful?
A hair transplant can be useful if you find hair loss stressful and have sufficient healthy donor hair. These should be of sufficient thickness so that the desired visual result can be achieved.

Methods of hair transplantation in Wiesbaden
FUE method
In FUE hair transplantation, individual grafts (groups of up to 5 hairs) are removed and transplanted. Although the FUE method is a complex hair transplant, it provides very natural results without visible scars.
The FUE method is particularly suitable for patients with short or medium-length hair, as the donor area often has to be shaved.
Before a hair transplant is carried out in Wiesbaden, a detailed consultation takes place. If the chances of success are considered promising, a treatment date will be set together with the specialist. Hair transplantation consists of two steps. Firstly, the hair roots are removed individually using a hollow needle and stored in a special solution. The hair roots are then implanted into the desired area by the surgeon using tweezers.
Regular check-ups are carried out after the operation. The final result can be assessed after about a year.
FUT method
In an FUT hair transplant, a narrow strip of skin is removed from the hairline. The treating surgeon extracts the grafts from this and implants them individually in the target region. The FUT method is considerably less time-consuming and less expensive than the FUE procedure. However, a scar remains at the back of the head, which is covered by the hair if it is longer than 1 centimetre.
The FUT technique is particularly suitable for patients with longer hair who can conceal a scar well. FUT hair transplantation is also an option if extensive shaving is not desired.
The procedure is very similar to that of an FUE treatment. A detailed consultation also takes place before the hair transplant in Wiesbaden. The key difference is that a whole strip of skin is removed instead of individual grafts. This is then sutured. The surgeon stitches the grafts out of the strip of skin and inserts them using special tweezers, as in the FUE procedure.
Frequently asked questions about hair transplantation in Wiesbaden
In the vast majority of cases, hair loss is genetic. However, there are also hormonal and disease-related causes. Scarring or a lack of nutrients can also cause hair loss.
The most common form of hair loss is hereditary hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). This can usually be successfully treated with a hair transplant.
Hair transplantation is also possible in principle for circular or diffuse hair loss and hair loss due to scarring. However, the causes should be clarified before the hair transplant in Wiesbaden. In the case of disease-related causes, the transplanted hair would probably fall out again. It is therefore important to first find out the cause of the hair loss and then decide on an individual basis whether a hair transplant is the most suitable method.
Hair transplantation merely redistributes healthy hair, but does not treat the cause of hair loss. Hair transplantation should therefore only be carried out once the hair loss has stopped.
After the hair transplant, the transplanted hair initially falls out again. It then takes around 3 months for the hair to start growing back. The final result can be assessed after about a year.
Permanent results are achieved with a hair transplant if the hair loss has already stopped at the time of treatment.
There is always a certain risk that individual hair follicles will not grow and die. This risk is particularly high when large quantities of follicles are transplanted in one session. If carried out correctly, the growth rate is around 80 - 95 %. Please also note that smoking, for example, can disrupt blood circulation and therefore have a negative effect on the growth rate. If you smoke, it is therefore worth using the hair transplant as an opportunity to quit.
The greatest risk of a hair transplant is that the treatment may not be successful. However, this risk can be drastically reduced by thoroughly analysing the causes of hair loss in advance and only performing the transplant once the hair loss has stopped.
Complications such as inflammation are very rare if the procedure is carried out correctly. Rejection reactions are also not to be expected, as only the body's own hair is transplanted.
Normal side effects of a hair transplant can include wound pain and mild swelling as well as slight sensory disturbances, which, however, subside on their own.
The treatment is painless and takes place under local anaesthetic. You may experience slight soreness after the hair transplant, for which you will be prescribed a painkiller.
Hair transplantation may need to be repeated several times in order to achieve the desired result. However, the number of available donor hairs is limited, so it is always necessary to carefully weigh up how many sessions make sense.
The cost of a hair transplant varies depending on the method and scope of treatment. Before your hair transplant in Wiesbaden, you will receive a detailed cost plan that takes your individual situation into account.
